Yamaha and Honda Scooters
From North America to South America, from India to Europe, from Asia to Africa, scooter and mopeds have become a mode of transportation from the young to the old. The global populartiy of scooters dates from the post-World War II introductions of the Vespa and Lambretta. And though you’ll probably not find many scooters dating back to the 1945s, Yamaha and Honda continue to build scooters that fit the era.
Prior to the 1970s, use of mopeds and scooters in the United States were relatively rare due to legal restrictions of the devices in many states. In 1972, Serge Seguin, after writing a masters thesis on the Eurpoean scooter, received two mopeds and a small amount of money to promote the vehicle. After lobbying Congress on its fuel efficiency benefits, Seguin was able to get more than 30 states to devise a specific vehicle classification for scooters and mopeds. They quickly became popular, with more than 250,000 people in the United States owning one in 1977. But once the gasoline prices began to fall and the automobile companies devised more efficient cars, the scooter’s popularity began to fade.
But as you have probably noticed the fuel prices have to began to increase and even though there are certaintly more fuel-efficient cars, scooters and insurance are inexpensive. And who can say they aren’t fun to ride? Find an authorized dealer of Yamaha and Honda scooters and try one out for yourself.
